At all of the DVSF schools our mantra is ‘Excite, Engage, Include’ and we are very proud of our child centred activities that fulfil this. But what does it actually mean?

All our long, medium, and short term planning is underpinned by the children having fun – school needs to be enjoyable and we are committed to ensuring that our children have the best experiences. Our staff ensure that the children are excited by their learning and we make sure that we are continually looking at different ways to approach learning.

All of our planning draws on the best practice from Early Years. It is linked across subjects, focuses on first-hand, hands on experiences and supports our commitment to learning outside the classroom in our beautiful grounds. Forest School is an important part of our offer to children.

Lessons are engaging and pupils show great levels of focus on set tasks. It could be that the staff use drama, dressing up, visits or visitors to ensure that children are engaged with their learning. This is supported by a curriculum that builds on previously learned skills and lessons that extend children’s learning.

Inclusion is a big part of our approach. It does not matter what a child’s starting point is, and we track their progress in all subjects during the year, they may come across something that they do not understand or find difficult. We use our dedicated and highly qualified learning support assistants to help their understanding. We also have trained and experienced ELSA staff, who can be used to support children’s emotional literacy and mental health.

In short we offer exciting learning opportunities that engage the children in their learning, whilst offering high levels of support to ensure that all the children can access the curriculum on offer.
